Why am I getting ‘Invalid QR code’ or ‘This code is no longer valid’ alerts?

If you receive any messages such as “Invalid QR code”, “eSIM cannot be added” or “This code is no longer valid” while installing your eSIM, it could be due to a couple of reasons:

  • You have a poor Wi-Fi connection and only partially scanned the QR code
  • You’ve already added an eSIM before

This is a common issue for iOS devices using manual or QR code installation.

In order to check if you already have an eSIM installed, you can check in the “My eSIMs” tab in the Skratch app and double confirm in your device settings as follows:

  • Go to “Settings
  • Go to “General
  • Tap “About” > Scroll down to check if you see an ICCID number for your eSIM plan

Note: if you have already removed an eSIM and you attempt to re-install it, you may encounter an error. If it’s a first time installation you should have no issues if you have a strong Wi-Fi connection, free eSIM slots on your device and your phone is unlocked.
